On Wednesday, news broke that the surgery Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) had last Friday to remove a blood clot revealed a type of brain tumor known as a glioblastoma. Social media quickly saw a flood of prayers and well wishes for McCain, and Florida’s Senators, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), joined in.
.@SenJohnMcCain is an American hero. I pray for him and his family. I look forward to seeing him soon.

The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, where McCain’s surgery was performed, released a statement (with the permission of McCain and his family), saying that his doctors reported that he was recovering from his surgery “amazingly well” and that his health was otherwise “excellent.” The McCain family is currently considering various treatment options, which could include chemotherapy or radiation.
McCain’s office also released a statement saying thanks “for the outpouring of support he has received over the past few days” and said that he was recuperating at home with his family in Arizona.
Meghan McCain, the Senator’s daughter, posted her own heartfelt statement on Twitter expressing her “boundless” love for her father and her confidence that he would [meet]this challenge as he has every other.”

Former President Barack Obama shared his thoughts, calling McCain “an American hero” and “one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known.”
John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I've ever known. Cancer doesn't know what it's up against. Give it hell, John.
