35 Orlando Social Justice Groups Call For Mayor Buddy Dyer to pass immigrant led Trust Act Ordinance

(ORLANDO, FL) On Monday, 35 social justice organizations representing thousands of Orlando residents known as the Trust Orlando Coalition are holding a press conference to publicly call for Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to pass the Trust Act Ordinance to protect immigrants from discrimination by police in the City of Orlando.

The Trust Act Ordinance has been developed and written for over a year by local immigrant-led organizations within the coalition, including DACA recipients that live and work within the city of Orlando and supported by District 5 City Commissioner Regina Hill to have a law that would provide clear and verifiable standards for city police when dealing with national origin or immigration status of Orlando residents during interactions with the police or when reporting an incident.

The Trust Act Ordinance has been presented to all of the commissioners over the summer as the best way for Orlando to have sensible and smart policies with the fear of mass deportations and separation of families pushed by the Trump administration and to also provide a level of trust between local law enforcement and residents.
