The District 30 State Representative says Florida will continue its strong partnership with the U.S. territory to help rebuild and grow stronger following Hurricane Maria.~
Puerto Rico’s Governor Ricardo Rossello and Secretary of Education Julia Keleher
have recently announced plans for significant reforms to the territory’s education system. Today, State
Representative Bob Cortes, whose leadership has been at the forefront of state efforts to assist Puerto
Rico following Hurricane Maria last year, made the following statement regarding Florida’s ongoing
partnership with Puerto Rico.
“Governor Rossello and Secretary Keleher are making a move in the right direction for the students of
Puerto Rico, and we stand ready in Florida to assist them in any way possible. Expanding school choice
has been the right move for our state, and we look forward to working with the Puerto Rico Department
of Education to provide any information on our education policy and other school choice-related matters
that would be of help to them as they move forward. Governor Rossello and Secretary Keleher’s
leadership will help ensure that every Puerto Rican student has the opportunity to live up to his or her full
potential, and we applaud them

The heart-wrenching decisions made by President Trump continues the devastation of those who have made this country their home. Targeting hard working families and their children is a cowards way of making his group of followers echo their ignorance. I am saddened to have to say that this man is our leader. Our young children perhaps do not understand but once they do, they too will fear.
