The Governor recommended, and the Legislature approved, the following major legislative initiatives:

  • Fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela: prohibit state agencies from investing with the Maduro regime;
  • Fight the national opioid epidemic in Florida: major legislation and funding to combat opioid abuse;
  • Protect vulnerable Floridians: keep residents safe at every Florida nursing home and assisted living facility;
  • Cut Taxes: more than $500 million in tax cuts for Florida families;
  • Protect Lake Okeechobee: funding to help expedite repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike;
  • Secure pay raises: state law enforcement officers and juvenile detention and juvenile probation officers will receive pay raises; and
  • Keep students safe: significant legislation to make Florida schools safer and keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill and dangerous people following the tragic Parkland shooting.

Governor Scott said, “Leading up to this legislative session, I announced many major initiatives to help secure Florida’s future, and I am proud of the work we have done together with the Florida Legislature to achieve these victories for our families, visitors and job creators. These accomplishments will keep Florida on the path of success for generations to come, and we will continue to fight each and every day to make our state the best place to raise a family, receive a top-notch education, get a great job and live in a safe community.”
