Seminole County businessman Scott Sturgill announced on Wednesday that he was running for Florida’s 7th Congressional District, which includes Seminole County and northern Orange County, as well as the University of Central Florida campus. The seat is currently held by Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D), who defeated long-time incumbent John Mica (R) in 2016.
Sturgill previously ran for state representative in 2014, but lost in the Republican primary to former Longwood Mayor Bob Cortes, who would go on to win the seat.
Sturgill will face a tough primary in 2018 as well. State Rep. Mike Miller previously announced he would run for the Congressional seat last month, and State Sen. David Simmons has said that he is “98% sure” he will enter the race.
