This is your OPO Intelligence Briefing for Monday, March 9th, 2015:
Pete Clarke gets an opponent in district 3, possibly two in 2016:
Orange County Commissioner Pete Clarke, has opposition in district 3 for next year. Will “Bill” Moore quietly filed on Friday. I wanted to do an introductory write up on his candidacy but only got voice mail. Of course, if he calls back, I’ll write the story.
Clarke could find himself with a 2nd opponent, one he’s very familiar with.
Belle Isle Commissioner and Realtor Lydia Pisano, hinted on the Orange County Rake, last night she could possibly make a 3rd run at the County Commission. Pisano and Clarke opposed each other in 2010, where they would both lose to Clarke’s colleague, Commissioner Jennifer Thompson. In 2012, it was Clarke that would grab the 2nd spot in the run-off on his way to a general election win that what was the underdog victory story of that.
Defeating Clarke would be a difficult feat. Many didn’t give him a chance against his run-off opponent in 2012,but despite being outspent 3 to 1, he would literally walk to victory, knocking on every door he could find in district 3, several times over. He’s one of the more well liked members of the Commission, known for being thoughtful, and soft spoken.
The Orange Dems wanted the Grandstands in Tinker Field to stay up: One fact you won’t find about today’ Tinker Field council meeting, was that the Orange County Democratic Executive Committee supported leaving the grandstands up. It now looks certain they will be coming down. Dems hold a 5-2 majority on the council, but the nudge from the party didn’t change the outcome.
Winter Park Mayor Race goes down to the wire: I think the only thing anyone can agree on in the Winter Park Mayor race, is that they’ll be glad it’s over in just over 24hrs. The brutal match-up has taken it’s toll on everyone. Based on my intel on the ground, it’s still not clear what’s going to happen tomorrow night.
You’ve been briefed. I’ll see you next time.
