Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Florida are pushing a new television ad opposing the Border Adjustment Tax or BAT tax currently being considered in Washington. The BAT tax is a consumption tax on imported goods used to promote more domestic products.
In the ad, AFP calls the tax “as big as Obamacare” projecting that it could cost families an extra $1,700 dollars a year by driving up costs on clothes, food and fuel.
“Here in Florida, the impact of this consumer tax would be devastating, not just to the state’s 71,000 importers but to hardworking families faced with higher costs on the goods they buy every day.” said AFP Florida Director Chris Hudson “This is the wrong direction on tax reform and we intend to let lawmakers in Washington know that.”
Supporters of the tax say it will create jobs by compelling companies to create products here in the United States. President Donald Trump was once in opposition of the tax but is reportedly weighing each side of the argument.
