President Donald Trump has announced that he will be throwing a rally on Saturday, April 29th, the same evening of the annual White House Correspondence dinner. Both events will take place on Trump’s 100th day in office.
“Next Saturday night I will be holding a BIG rally in Pennsylvania. Look forward to it!” said the tweet sent out by the President on Saturday night.
The White House Correspondence Dinner, known as “Nerd Prom” by some, is an annual event regularly attended by the Commander in Chief, which features a celebrity comedian in a “roast-like” environment that jabs D.C culture and usually pokes fun at the President himself.
Trump has identified the media as an enemy to his administration and regularly blames new media with accusations of inaccurate and unfair coverage or “fake news”, both on social media and during the rallies similar to one he’ll be holding in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening.
The President has been regularly hosting “Thank You” rallies in major swing states that supported him during last year’s election, including here in Orlando at the Central Florida fairgrounds.
The dinner will be hosted by the Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj. The last President to miss the dinner was President Ronald Reagan in 1981 who was recovering from an assassination attempt.
