Longwood Mayor Joe Durso raised $47,150 in his first full month of fundraising in his campaign to be the next Seminole County Commissioner from District 4.
The haul includes a start-up $25,000 self loan in addition to donations from individuals and businesses from around Seminole County and the state. Notable donors include Durso’s colleague, Longwood Commissioner Ben Paris and former State Representative Chris Dorworth. There were no listed expenditures leaving the total amount on hand.
Durso told the Observer he wants his supporters to know he’s serious about his run with the self loan and is proud of the diverse group of contributors who have donated to his campaign in his first full month of fundraising.
“I am so grateful for the strong showing of early support for our campaign.” he says “We are off to an excellent start and we’ll have more exciting announcements in the coming weeks. The kind words of encouragement from citizens all over Seminole County has been really humbling.”
The Longwood Mayor is running to replace longtime incumbent Carlton Henley, who has hinted that he will not be running for another term next year. Seminole County School Board Chair Amy Lockhart is also reportedly considering a run.
