Monday Morning Political Headlines: Citrus Bowl Renovations

Citrus_bowl

The Monday after an exciting finish to legislation brings the doldrums of Monday political news.

The City of Orlando moves on to Citrus Bowl renovations. The aging venue is badly in need of improvement. It currently hosts to big name College Bowl games, and keeps the city in the hunt for big events, like Wrestlemania, and others.

I’ll also be releasing Report Cards for our State Legislators this week. We’ll start at the Senate and move down.

Have a great Monday!

Wednesday Morning Political Headlines: Drama in Tallahassee and Orange County

There was political drama everywhere yesterday.

In Tallahassee, the State Legislature came to a grinding halt when Democrats insisted on every single bill being read in the Florida House. This was in protest to the Legislature’s unwillingness to expand the state’s medicaid program to accommodate the President’s healthcare plan. The protest is happening this morning as I type this and an auto reader’s electronic voice fills the audio feed in Tallahassee.

At home Latino Justice is suing Orange County, saying that the last redistricting plan reduced the power of the Latino vote. Percentages showed that the number in two Districts in fact, increased in the number of Hispanics eligible to vote. The group backed by Democratic operatives (with grudges) attacked the Republican majority commission, when they were going to vote to spend $360,000 dollars to bring in outside council.

They dropped the vote but the group blasted them during public comment anyway. Congressman Alan Grayson who’s district overlaps parts of Orange spoke against the Commission’s plan. Grayson is of course famous for his violent approach when working with Republicans.

These stories lead your Wednesday morning political headlines.

Tuesday Morning Political Headlines: Orlando City steps closer to Taxpayer dollars, Texting and Driving Ban, and “Coast to Coast” trail

As Legislative Session races to a finish in Tallahassee, the bills and budget proposals take the political center stage here in Central Florida.

The text while driving ban seems inevitable at this point. Tex ting behind the wheel would be a secondary offense that would be punishable by a fine.

The Orlando City Soccer gets the Senate Bill it needs passed to be eligible for Taxpayer dollars in an effort to lure an MLS franchise to the city beautiful. It now heads to the house for approval and riding on the back of the Miami Dolphins, who would also be eligible for funds, and there big money lobbying in Tally, I would say it’s looking pretty good.

We’ve also got the fate of the Coast to Coast Bike trail in the mix. Will it clear the final budget?

Monday Morning Political Headlines: Florida Teachers will get their pay raises

Happy Monday.

Especially if you’re a Florida School Teacher.

The State Legislature agreed to terms to deliver the much hyped pay raise to Florida teachers. These raises were Governor Scott’s top priority and after a short period where the plan appeared in jeopardy, the announcements were made late last night. It’s a merit based system that can range from 2,500 to 3,500 depending on the teacher’s performance.

It’s going to be an exciting race to the finish as the State Legislative session in Tallahassee ends this week.

Glass Bongs, may soon be illegal in the state of Florida. Since the House Bill passed yesterday, Taco Bell stock has dropped %20 (that is a joke).

More facts will come forward today, as investigators from national and Massachusetts state and local agencies continue to bring the facts together and provide answers to the country.
