Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings has released her first TV ad in her campaign to be the next member of Congress from Florida’s 10th Disrict.
The spot picks up where her TV ads leave off describing her personal history working her way up from an underprivileged family to ultimately becoming the first female Chief of Police in Orlando’s history.
“Whether it was working the overnight shift at the Orlando Police Department or volunteering with the youth group she used to lead, Chief Demings commitment to Central Florida can be seen in all facets of her life,” said Campaign Communications Director Caroline Rowland. “Chief Demings worked hard to build community relationships as police chief and by doing that they were able to reduce violent crime in Orlando by 40%. Her priority has always been to improve the quality of life in our community and in Congress Chief Demings will continue to be focused on the people of Central Florida and how she can best serve them.”
Demings faces opposition in the Democratic primary from former Florida Democratic Party Chairman Bob Poe, State Senator Geraldine Thompson, and Attorney Fatima Rita Fahmy. With GOP incumbent Daniel Webster running in the 11th district this year, Republican Businesswoman Thuy Lowe is the Republican nominee.
