Orange County Democratic Executive Committee Vice Chair and Attorney, Nuren Haider, announced on Monday night, that she has decided not to qualify for the State House District 44 Special Election. Last week, she filed papers for the house seat that opened up after former State Representative Eric Eisnaugle was appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Scott.
“I’ve decided not to qualify at this time.” said Haider in a statement “I will continue to work hard and fight for the constituents in my area and all of Florida to make sure that we focus on education, healthcare, our safety, and much more.”
The announcement leaves Paul Chandler as the only Democrat in the contest against a wide field of Republicans. The West Orange County seat does favor the GOP with Republicans representing the area in the state house for the last several years. D44 includes areas such as Winter Garden and Windermere.
