The Market is Down, Mcallister is Up, and Huntsman’s Campaign Conflict

TGIF, Let’s go…

I got five (hundred) on it: The market plummeted 500 points to 2008 lows yesterday, setting off an economic panic that is being felt around the world. Asia, Europe, and Wall St. are all prepared to bury their money if this keeps up. Gold! Gold is down and the guy spinning the sign on Colonial Dr. said that would never happen.

Everyone is looking at the President…

President Obama’s approval rating fell to a 2008, G.W Bush-like, 44% in the latest Quinnipiac Poll. The voters are obviously not pleased with the way that the debt ceiling debates were handled and Mitt Romney has got to stoked. He stayed quiet, walked through the mudslinging and came out clean on the other side, still leading the polls amongst GOP Presidential hopefuls.

Mike McCalister leads poll: The same poll that has Obama’s approval sinking has former Army Colonel Mike McCalister leading the Republican field, in the primary to take on Bill Nelson. He’s out front with 15%, Former Senator George Lemieux has 12%, the guy working at the pizza parlor in Maitland has %8, and former State Rep. Adam Hasner has %6.

You might has seen McCalister’s name on this blog before, he finished third in last year’s GOP Gubernatorial primary, that saw him take an unexpected 10% in that slug match between Bill McCullom and, then unknown, Florida Governor Rick Scott. Is he for real? We’ll see..

McCallister is up in the polls. Is he the real deal?

Jon Huntsman Campaign Infighting?: Yesterday, Politico and the Orlando Sentinel pushed a nasty story on the Orlando Based, Jon Huntsman campaign that touched some major conflicts between key staff. Forget TNT, if this article is on point, then this is where the drama is at.

The story of campaign strategist John Weaver and family friend Dave Fischer has HBO movie written all over it, and they could shoot it on Orange Ave.

The timing is unfortunate, Huntsman has recently been mentioned by some TV pundits as a dark horse to push into the Romney/Bachmann conversation. The former Utah Governor doesn’t need this right now.

It's been the drama behind the scenes which has made the headlines this week for Jon Huntsman

Breaking:Tenative Debt Ceiling Agreement Reached

President Obama announced during a late evening press conference that a tentative agreement has been reached in Debt Ceiling negotiations between House Republicans and Senate Democrats.

Doing TV tonight but, there will be a full write-up tomorrow.

Obama to be reminded, you can't please everyone, even in your own party

Oh yeah, it’s another opinion piece on debt negotiations in Washington..

As we speed towards the August 2nd deadline, in what is feeling like the fastest July ever. Both sides are trying to grind out a compromise to keep the United States from defaulting on it’s financial obligations. If things weren’t bad enough after the failed weekend negotiations. President Obama (your boy) decided to go on prime time television and give the most partisan speech during his time in the oval office.

After Hell’s Kitchen but, before The Bachelorette, the President essentially threw gasoline on the fire by calling on all Americans to contact their lawmakers and let them know how they feel about the current situation in Washington and, the way their elected officials are communicating.

This essentially set off the biggest “phone bomb” in recent memory with emails and lines to lawmakers all over the country being flooded, beyond capacity. He used convincing language that said he, himself shouldn’t be receiving the tax breaks that other wealthy Americans are receiving and for the first time during a prime time television address pointed the finger at the other side.

This was effective strategical communication. Establish an “Us against them” way of thinking and move forward. Senate Leader Harry Reid even backed up his speech announcing that any GOP plan will be “dead on arrival” in the Senate.

If your a Liberal, you should be pleased right? Pushing back against the “Big Bad Right”. Not everyone is pleased.

Now Maher is an idiot, and a lot of reasonable Democrats won’t see this as caving. This is hardball politics with the intention of seeing their party keep the White House after 2012. You give up the revenue, tout less taxes and push the issue back, until after 2012, in an attempt to win re-election.

Morons like Maher and other hyper-lefties don’t see that, and are too busy frothing at the mouth to realize that this is one political battle in a campaign that leads to November 2012.

If political friendly fire wasn’t bad enough for the White House, the RNC pushed out this ad, this morning.

You can’t please everyone but, if the opinion leaders in your own party aren’t watching your back, then you’ve got some serious problems.

Obama's Job Numbers, Last Shuttle Flight on Nelson's Watch energize Senate Candidates

When Joe Biden was in town earlier this year, raising money for his friend and Florida Senator Bill Nelson, he said something very potent and very true.

“If Bill Nelson doesn’t win, Barack Obama won’t win Florida.”

Florida is the biggest swing state in the country, It’s been said time and time again. Florida will be a major player in the deciding the next leader of the free world.

Two setbacks occurred earlier this week that, hurt both the President Obama and Bill Nelson re-election chances.

The new unemployment rate was released yesterday and it was 9.2%. A devastating setback for the President and the Country in an effort to move out of the great recession. The President himself put a pause on political spin and admitted that the numbers weren’t where he wanted them to be.

If this wasn’t bad enough for Floridians, there was a bitter sweet ending to a way of life on the Space Coast.

The final Shuttle launch of Atlantis officially ended an era in Brevard County. NASA has let thousands of jobs go here, and in Houston. People from all over the world lined the streets and the interstates to catch a glimpse of the final launch, that was almost a no-go due to weather conditions. Those in attendance were in luck as the skies cleared just in time for Atlantis to fly, one last time.

These two unfortunate events will be on the minds of voters when they cast their ballots next November. Candidates for the GOP nomination for Senate have been critical of the President’s actions on the economy, as well as Bill Nelson’s efforts to save jobs on the space coast. All three responded through social media yesterday..

Senate Leader Mike Haridopolos Tweeted his thoughts:

Tweet from Haridopolos: 9.2% unemployment, failed stimulus, gov. takeover of healthcare. Is this hope and change? We need leadership and accomplishments

Here is a bullet from Former State Rep Adam Hasner’s statement

There can be no doubt that our nation is in a full scale economic crisis, and that President Obama, Senator Bill Nelson, and the Democrats who control Washington are making this crisis worse.

Former Senator George Lemieux sent out this tweet.

Shuttle's last flight leaves us dependent on Russians, who are tripling the cost of transport to space station. Shameful.

Both Obama and Nelson are favored for re-election but with massive job losses, failing to pull the country out of an economic nose dive could put them both out of work.

Five Funny Things for a Monday- It's really hot out! – Edition

Happy Monday! If such a thing exists.

I hope you guys had a great weekend. It’s time for Five Funny Things for a Monday and it’s boiling outside! It feels like someone is waving a hair dryer in your face when you step outside.

Without further delay, let’s do Five Funny Things:

1. Obama and Boehner hit the golf course: You guys know how much I dig stories like this one…. Over the weekend President Barack Obama and, Speaker John Boehner took on VP Joe Biden and Ohio Governor John Kasich in 18 holes of golf at Andrews Air Base.

Now, some pundits believe that the two took the time on the links, to talk about the difficult issues facing the country and to present a united front to the public, one that inspires hope that the two leaders of each party can overcome partisan gridlock and get the country moving again.

Then there are others who believe it was all warm and fuzzy PR, and a chance for two men that really don’t hate each other that much to spend an afternoon on the course and watch the U.S Open in the clubhouse.

Let’s go with the second group. Get me Michelle Bachmann and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on the Amazing Race and then we’ll talk about real bi-partisan progress.

The President and Speaker were victorious in their golf match. The next stop? The WWE Tag Team Titles.

2. Anthony Weiner on Entourage: It’s true, various sources have reported over the last few days that one of the execs on the HBO show has offered the lewd tweeting congressman, a role on the hit show.

You’ve got to be kidding me right?!

This clown sends obscene pictures of his junk to young girls, behind his pregnant wife’s back and he get’s a walk-on role on what is arguably, the coolest show on television!?

What’s next Charlie Rangel on Boardwalk Empire? Oh, that’s right, he was still in office back then.

Room for Anthony Weiner?

3. Jon Stewart on Fox News Sunday: If you missed Jon Stewart taking on Chris Wallace on FOX news Sunday, then you missed out on the best interview of the month and possibly the year, so far. You’re also lucky because the whole thing is on this HUFFPO post. We all know Jon Stewart but, for those of you that don’t know Chris Wallace, he is a formidable interviewer who seldom falls back on anything but facts and leveled logic and this segment was absolutely remarkable.

“Being a comedian is harder than what you do” and “You’re insane” were two shots sent Wallace’s way by Stewart.

4. Canucks Lose, Vancouver Riots: Ah, Vancouver..Congratulations, a blog on the other side of the continent is writing about your behavior last week. In an o-mage, to Los Angeles after a championship win. The lovely Host city of the Winter Olympics, went completely nuts last week, after their NHL Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins.

Vancouver mind you….and it was bad.

One photo that made it out of the riots was absolutely brilliant and so far, is being accepted as real. A humble opinion from a hobby photographer? It’s iconic.

If it's real, it's a masterpiece

5. This went viral?: Finally, the five spot is reserved for something ridiculous and this fits the description.

Debbie is it? You’re either a gifted actress or completely out of your mind. Either way…give me a call.

Have a great week guys!
