The Orange County Democratic Executive Committee have announced they’ll be holding a Meet and Greet with the Candidates for Chair of the Florida Democratic Party this Friday in Downtown Orlando.
The flyer confirms all five candidates, Lisa King, Leah Carius, Dwight Bullard, Stephen Bittel, and Alan Clenendin will be on hand to meet members from the local party.
“We believe that it is important to understand that many millions of dollars are spent in Florida each election cycle and that the current Republican Governor spent, like the President Elect, millions of dollars of his own money to get into power. We are likely to face a similar situation in 2018 and in other elections to come. We also recognize that the Party has failed to use its funds effectively to win outside of the largest urban areas and that we must directly address this issue.” said the DEC in a joint statement “These sessions will help to resolve questions and to clarify the choices we are making. As YOUR representatives in the state balloting process, carrying YOUR votes, we plan to conduct a straw poll and to get your recommendations on our vote. We invite you to please stay tuned as we go through this process together.”
The five candidates were in town to meet with the OCDEC Board last weekend, with each spending over an hour describing their vision for the party (story HERE). All five of them also sat down with OPO for a sit-down interview (story HERE).
Incumbent FDP Chair Allison Tant has announced she will not be seeking reelection. The next Chair will be responsible for pulling the party out of a nosedive that saw Rick Scott get reelected in 2014, as well as losing Florida to Donald Trump. They are also in the minority in the State Legislature and Congress.
