She’s running for Orange County Mayor in a Non-partisan race but you would think former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings was running against Ted Cruz by the looks of her donor lists.
Democratic Lawmakers, Advocates, Activists, and Whale Donors can all be seen in Demings’ first campaign finance reports which brought in 126K.
This is in addition to the 50K check written by the Florida Democratic Party.
Elected Officials donating include Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph, State Representative Karen Castor-Dentel, Orlando Commissioner Daisy Lynum. Former CFO and current candidate in Florida Congressional District 13 Special Election Alex Sink is also on the list with a big donation.
There are also financial supporters from Planned Parenthood, and Organize Now. Organizations that typically oppose Republicans regardless of the situation.
Also accounted for on the reports are advocates from the LGBT community. This might sting Incumbent Mayor Teresa Jacobs because she worked with a lot of those same donors on an domestic partnership registry for Orange County.
Not everyone from Demings’ haul was a political entity. Personal Injury Super-Attorneys Mark Nation and Dan Newlin, former Law Enforcement Officers, donated large sums to her campaign.
While the race is non-partisan, and identification by affiliation is discouraged, Demings needs to activate those voters to help her win. Orange County is a Blue County.
This isn’t the first time the partisan card has been used against Jacobs. Her last opponent made this video comparing Jacobs to Sarah Palin.
The tactic turned-off voters and Jacobs won by a landslide.
