Marco Rubio catches Nancy Reagan, National Spotlight

Republican Senator and conservative rising star Marco Rubio spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday. In his first major speech outside of the state of Florida and Washington D.C, this was suppose to be a coming out party for the Senator many believe to be the prime pick for a VP nod in 2012.

It indeed was but, it’s what he did before his speech that has caught the national spotlight. Here, check this out.

Marco Rubio catching Nancy Reagan in her husband’s library, during his introduction to Republican royalty and on national television?

I’m surprised that they didn’t ask him to pull a sword out of a stone afterwards.

You can let the spin machine weave the possibility of this being nothing short of prophetic. The underdog, son of exiles, pulling up the former first lady (who’s in her nineties). You can tell she tries to Senator Rubio that she’s going to fall but, doesn’t have the strength.

Charlie Crist would have dropped that poor woman…

but all is well and Senator Rubio gave a great speech that will allow his Vice Presidential stock to rise. You know it’s been a while since I’ve said something bad about Rubio, so I will offer this…

It’s a good thing he’s got better hands than those Miami Dolphin wide receivers he roots for!

Debt Ceiling Bill Passes House and Gabrielle Giffords Returns to Washington D.C

Minutes ago, the Debt Ceiling Bill passed the House of Representatives 269-161. The deal that no one wanted passed, and now moves on to a Senate vote tomorrow.

Democrats were angry that it didn’t eliminate the tax loopholes for the wealthy and Tea Party Conservatives preferred the Cut, Cap, and Balance act that would have gone at the national debt more aggressively. The current deal will raise the debt ceiling, without raising taxes and throws a bi-partisan SUPER COMMITTEE into play that, must agree on additional cuts by November or face across the board reductions that would effect entitlement and defense. You can believe lawmakers don’t want to touch these, the year before a lot of them will be up for re-election.

Tomorrow, it goes to Harry Reid and Co. where it will need 60 votes, 400 bottles of water, and a lot of patience to pass. Florida Senators are divided on the issue with Bill Nelson being a “YES” on the deal and Marco Rubio being a “NO”.

The real inspiration came from an unexpected place when, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords returned to Washington to vote in favor of the deal. The Democrat from Arizona was the victim of a horrible attack in her Tuscon district in January. The assassin killed several other people and shot Giffords in the head, during a community gathering.

Today, she was greeted with an ovation that brought the entire house to it’s feet. She was recognized by all of her colleagues for her courage and bravery.

In a day full of fighting, and an economic war that divided many in the same party, her presence was the first step for the House of Representatives in recovering for the next challenge that awaits them.

Debt Ceiling Agreement Reached, Vote Coming Soon?

Yesterday at 8:40 PM President Obama announced that a deal had been reached among party leaders, to raise the debt ceiling. It’s a lot to get your hands around and while, I think it will pass, there is always the chance of lawmakers crossing their arms and saying no.

The deal allows President Obama to raise the debt ceiling but not raise taxes, it also allows for additional raises if further cuts are identified. A special SUPER COMMITTEE will be formed ala Voltron/Avengers that will find an additional 1.2 trillion in cuts. Now, here is the interesting part…there are these triggers that come into play, that if not met, will force cuts across the board (including medicare and defense).

That is a bare bones, waiting at the bus stop, explanation. There are a lot of numbers being thrown around.

The early economic response has been positive, after President Obama’s announcement last night, Asian markets immediately started moving upwards. American markets are still sluggish but, that could change after the deal is approved.

Now the politics in all of this.

No one likes this plan, in fact, the far right and far left will probably hold their nose while voting for it or vote against it altogether. The far right says there aren’t enough cuts, and the far left sees this as caving on Obama’s part. The leadership in Congress have admitted they don’t like it.

If anything, the SUPER COMMITTEE (yes, I’m doing that on purpose) opens the door for another stand off, and see what happens if triggers start cutting entitlement or military pay because, a deal couldn’t be made. There will craziness…

Anyhow, lets see if this thing passes. I believe it will and lawmakers will be kicking and screaming all the way till the President’s pen hits the paper. This is pre-game skirmish before election season kicks off.

We should all hope this thing passes, it’s time to stop running. The election is not going to be won or lost 15 months before election day. Lawmakers, get this done!

Happy Father’s Day from FPFT!

It’s going to be a great day Dads!

Right now, it’s a bright sunny day in Central Florida and hopefully your heading out to have a great meal and do some fun things with your family.

We often forget that the politicians we scrutinize on a daily basis are dads too. They not only have to deal with the pundits, rival lawmakers, and media; they’ve still got to raise their kids!

Happy Father’s day to all of my readers. I hope today is everything you could ask for.

Rubio’s Refund Act, Newt gets Glittered, and Huntsman in Orlando

A lot to cover, let’s get popping.

Rubio’s Refund Act:Remember when Florida Governor Rick Scott turned down 2.4 billion dollars of federal money for high speed rail? That money went to other states like, Illinois, New York, and St. Louis. We’ve got a deficit like the worlds never seen and because we chose not to take money that was awarded to us, other states got it. Instead of trying to fix the problem that effects our future.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is trying to fix that.

Rubio introduced the Returned Exclusively For Unpaid National Debt (REFUND) Act. This allows us to send money we don’t decide to use to go towards paying off the national debt. Imagine what that 2.4 billion which was ours, could have saved on a federal level.

If legislation like this would have been brought forth sooner, we might have been able to avoid national cuts to programs that affect vulnerable citizens (special needs, elderly) and services that we really need.

We need to support this.

Newt Gingrich gets glittered: Newt has had a rough week. First he catches all sorts of flak for assaulting Paul Ryan’s medicare plan and now this.

An activist threw enough glitter on Gingrich to make a piece of construction paper jealous.

Was it necessary? No. Should we care? Not really. It’s another political stunts, we just have to make sure it stays peaceful.

So ladies, when your man comes home and you find glitter on his clothes, you might think he’s partying behind your back.

Relax, he probably just got back from a Gingrich rally.

Jon Huntsman to set up Presidential HQ in Orlando: Who? You might be asking. Former Utah Governor and Ambassador to China, Republican Jon Huntsman will be setting up his Prez exploratory HQ, right here in Orlando.

Strategically, it makes a lot of sense. The middle of the biggest battleground state in the country? Why not?

He’s not well known, and he hasn’t been polling well but, you never know and if he gets hot, chances are you’ll know someone that will be working for him.

It’s been a busy day. I might take tomorrow off, we’ll see.

April 15th Tax Day Party Recap with Video

Yeah, the Tea Party in Central Florida is still here and they’re here in force.

On Friday at Lake Eola Park in Orlando 2500 (splitting the estimates) filled the band shell to hear Tea Party and Conservative favorites like Marco Rubio, Joe the Plumber, and Presidential contender Herman Cain who, was the headliner. Bud Hedinger was the master of ceremonies and did a fine job.

One surprise was Senate President and U.S Senate candidate was Mike Haridopolos, who isn’t necessarily a fixture at these events, but he got some decent “pop” from the audience and about a 1/3 of a standing ovation.

Herman Cain was about 45 minutes late, and things were getting a little tense there for a second, but after he arrived, he received a great welcome from the large crowd, who didn’t budge for the entire 3 hour event.

There were about a dozen counter-protesters and two hecklers that jumped speeches. They were promptly escorted out by Orlando Police, peacefully. Speech jumpers have no place at events like these, conservative or liberal.

Unless it’s Kanye West, that would be pretty cool.

The event was a success and Central Florida we’ll be a heckuva battlefield in 2012, with President on the ballot.

Here is a little video. I tried to post some of the crowd shots and events that weren’t covered by the big guys. It’s nothing fancy and I just threw it together in about 15 minutes.

6 months since the last major Orlando Tea Party Rally, they haven't lost any momentum. Can anyone stop them?

Something for Everyone? Lady Ga Ga at Amway Center, Tax Day Party at Lake Eola

Ah Orlando, you’ve done it again. I love this town!

You’ve managed to round up the most liberal pop star on the planet at her peak, and right down the road you’ll have a Tea Party fueled, Tax Day Party with some of the most popular, conservative stars in politics.

In between? Beautiful weather, Friday afternoon Happy Hour, and you.

They say Ga Ga has one of the best concerts going right now, the fact that she can fill the Amway Center is plenty proof of that. Ga Ga (real name Stefani Gerrmanotta) is also one of the most politically outspoken artists out there, she won’t accept an award without advocating equal rights for the gay and lesbian community.

You might be able to listen to her music and take it or leave it, but there aren’t too many that can change the channel during one of her TV performances.

Lady Ga Ga is very politically outspoken and she's at the Amway Center tonight

A Tax Day Party, or Tea Party downtown is hardly news. Last year, you couldn’t go a month without a rally or protest of some sort. This one however has a very impressive line-up of speakers.

Herman Cain will be right down the street speaking at the Tax Day Party

Conservative favorite and possible Presidential contender Herman Cain will be speaking at the Lake Eola band shell along with Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who’s only been in office 4 months and already has people begging him to run for President. They’ll also be a few more speakers, and the master of ceremonies will be Bud Hedinger from WFLA.

So, there you have it. Something for everyone, right in the middle of downtown Orlando and the Magic also start their playoff run tomorrow night.

It’s going to be a great weekend, get out there and enjoy it.

Marco Rubio on Good Morning America, Nightline, Hannity

When you’re good, people find you.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been about a year since, Florida Senator Marco Rubio took the lead from then, Florida Governor Charlie Crist and forced him to leave the Republican Party and run as an independent. Yet, he’s only been in office three months.

Some want him to run for President, there is even more chatter naming him as a VP candidate and he’s not even done unpacking in Washington.

Senator Rubio has been busy making the rounds on television. He is under demand and if he wasn’t doing such a great job representing the state, I might have a problem with it. Still, he’s got the right conservative/center message to everything.

Obama’s birth certificate? Rubio: That’s not the reason America is broke.

Rubio for VP? Rubio: You can’t run for VP. I want to be the best Senator Florida has ever had
