Are you ready for a Sunrail Showdown?

Save the Train! Kill the Train! It will create jobs! We can’t afford it! Bless Rick Scott! Save us Harry Potter!

Which side are you on?

It’s the political issue that is exclusive to Central Florida that everyone has an opinion about. This was suppose to be a done deal when, then Governor Crist criss-crossed the state on his Sunrail Signing ceremony. For the most part, it was attended by groups in favor of the train that would stretch from Deland to Poinciana but, there were pockets of Tea Party camps protesting anyone that would approve this train under the current economic condidtions.

Then came Rick Scott and he vaporized any of the state’s prior plans, he was the big dog in the Sunshine State now.

with very little hesitation and a lot of met resistance he waved off high speed rail, that would have connected Orlando to Tampa. 2.4 Billion dollars that was going to be spent anyways was sent to Illinois, Missouri and New York.

He hasn’t been so quick to judge Sunrail, though. There is a lot more support for that, on both sides of the isle. He’s pushed off this decision to June then, at the beginning of the month he pointed out it would be the end of June. Well, it’s June 25.

Tuesday is being called the Sunrail Showdown by many, there is a reason for that. This week, Scott and his team will be making stops throughout Central Florida and will be in the middle of conflicting Sunrail protests. Public comments will be heard at board meetings in most of the Central Florida counties and there will be some political heavy hitters making their voices heard.

All of this leading to an eventual decision by Governor Scott.

So far, the money is on Rick Scott approving the project. I’ve said many times, if he does, he’ll lose what little support he has left.

What do I think?

Guys, I gotta tell you. I think Rick Scott will push his decision on Sunrail back to the beginning of August. He’s going to be taking in a lot over the next couple of days and will need some time to take it in.

You heard it here first.

So, is this gonna happen or what?

Happy Father’s Day from FPFT!

It’s going to be a great day Dads!

Right now, it’s a bright sunny day in Central Florida and hopefully your heading out to have a great meal and do some fun things with your family.

We often forget that the politicians we scrutinize on a daily basis are dads too. They not only have to deal with the pundits, rival lawmakers, and media; they’ve still got to raise their kids!

Happy Father’s day to all of my readers. I hope today is everything you could ask for.

Challengers already lining up against Scott?

A 29% approval rate will motivate a lot of people to take your job.

The rumblings have already started that possible opponents have already started sizing up Florida Governor Rick Scott‘s re-election chances in 2014. There aren’t any new names on this list but when the incumbent is getting booed out of every baseball game in the state, you’ve got to consider it right?

Three names being thrown around, three politicians that lost last November.

Alex Sink:The former CFO and Governor candidate lost by just a few thousand votes and a poorly timed text message. The amount of buyer’s remorse from voters that picked the former health care exec over Sink, is enough to deliver her a 2014 victory. You’ve got to hope that her press skills have improved and let’s remember she blamed President Obama for her loss last year. Should Obama be re-elected and if the economic landscape doesn’t improve, she’ll be blaming him for another loss as well.

Dan Gelber:He lost the race for Florida Attorney General last year to Pam Bondi, by a larger margin than anyone originally thought. That was suppose to be the one position in the cabinet that the Dems were counting on but, like Sink, Bondi chose to run against Obama and won easily. Gelber could fare well against Rick Scott in a televised debate especially if Rick Scott’s campaign promises don’t pan out. I could see Gelber winning a primary over an easily stumped Alex Sink but, there is one guy that could take that nomination from Dan, especially if starts siphoning votes from the left and perfectly times his run as a Democrat.

Charlie Crist: Awww, yeah! Rubio was the right choice but, you guys know you miss ole’ Charlie and how entertaining would a Charlie Crist/Rick Scott race be? I can’t believe that Crist has abandoned his political aspirations, he’s still going to have the fire in the belly (for a potential 2016 VP run that is) to try to move back into the Governor’s mansion. That race would be a blast to write about.

A Charlie Crist- Rick Scott race would attract national attention

Rubio’s Refund Act, Newt gets Glittered, and Huntsman in Orlando

A lot to cover, let’s get popping.

Rubio’s Refund Act:Remember when Florida Governor Rick Scott turned down 2.4 billion dollars of federal money for high speed rail? That money went to other states like, Illinois, New York, and St. Louis. We’ve got a deficit like the worlds never seen and because we chose not to take money that was awarded to us, other states got it. Instead of trying to fix the problem that effects our future.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio is trying to fix that.

Rubio introduced the Returned Exclusively For Unpaid National Debt (REFUND) Act. This allows us to send money we don’t decide to use to go towards paying off the national debt. Imagine what that 2.4 billion which was ours, could have saved on a federal level.

If legislation like this would have been brought forth sooner, we might have been able to avoid national cuts to programs that affect vulnerable citizens (special needs, elderly) and services that we really need.

We need to support this.

Newt Gingrich gets glittered: Newt has had a rough week. First he catches all sorts of flak for assaulting Paul Ryan’s medicare plan and now this.

An activist threw enough glitter on Gingrich to make a piece of construction paper jealous.

Was it necessary? No. Should we care? Not really. It’s another political stunts, we just have to make sure it stays peaceful.

So ladies, when your man comes home and you find glitter on his clothes, you might think he’s partying behind your back.

Relax, he probably just got back from a Gingrich rally.

Jon Huntsman to set up Presidential HQ in Orlando: Who? You might be asking. Former Utah Governor and Ambassador to China, Republican Jon Huntsman will be setting up his Prez exploratory HQ, right here in Orlando.

Strategically, it makes a lot of sense. The middle of the biggest battleground state in the country? Why not?

He’s not well known, and he hasn’t been polling well but, you never know and if he gets hot, chances are you’ll know someone that will be working for him.

It’s been a busy day. I might take tomorrow off, we’ll see.

Political Stocks: Who’s up, Who’s down in O-town

We haven’t done political stocks in a while, let’s try to get the ball rolling on it again, especially with the 2012 GOP Presidential hopefuls turning up.

Who’s up?:

1. Mike Huckabee: Whaaaaaaat? You’re probably wondering why someone who’s announced that they’re not going to run for President might have their stock on the rise. Well, when Mike Huckabee decided that his heart just wasn’t into the idea of another run at the White House, he immediately received calls from Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, and others to offer kind words supporting his decision, not to run.

In other words, they were kissing his rear, fishing for an endorsement.

Huckabee leaves a huge social conservative void in the GOP primary. If anyone can get a picture and a kind word from Huck, they might pick up the difference they need to put them out front.

2. House Speaker Dean Cannon: The big opinion leaders in Central Florida have agreed that the Florida Speaker of the House, imposed his will with the state legislature this past session.

Need some proof? Watch this video from the St. Pete Times.
I’m convinced the guy is a Cyborg, he even snubbed the opportunity for a man who was wrongly imprisoned for 27 years to receive compensation.

Stone cold, I tell ya but, he had a heck of a session.

3. Candidate for U.S Senate Adam Hasner: You hear that buzzing noise?…….You will.

Holding Steady:

1. Candidate for U.S Senate Mike Haridopolos: The State Senate Meltdown definitely would have landed the Senate Prez in the down category but, he offered counter programming in the form of big endorsements from Mike Huckabee and Florida CFO Jeff Atwater.

2. Florida Governor Rick Scott: Sunrail, Governor. What’s it gonna be?

Who’s Down”

1. Donald Trump: Unlike Huckabee, when “The Donald” decided against running for President (again) sighs of relief could be heard across the GOP landscape. It’s been a fast downward spiral for Trump since, the President called him out at the Press Correspondent Dinner, and released his birth certificate.

2.OC Commissioner Ted Edwards: Got called out for using his Amway Center Box Seats to see Usher, Tim Mcgraw, and Lady Gaga. Wasn’t illegal but he could have done without that coverage.

3. The Barking Tree Frog: I hate when animals get dissed. Our friend was denied the opportunity to be Florida’s state amphibian.

Apparently, Dean Cannon didn't care much for our friend here either.

Sources: Rick Scott set to approve Sunrail

How about this for a Friday afternoon story?

The Sunshine State News is reporting that Florida Governor Rick Scott is set to approve the commuter rail system, that will run from Volusia to Osceola County.

Green lighting Sunrail would give Scott something to point at, when confronting his critics about his job creation numbers.

He would also be risking the support of the Tea Party activists that have protested on behalf of Scott policies and stand firmly against killing the train.

Rick Scott’s approval rating is currently 41%

If any decisions are made, I’ll be sure to post about it ASAP.

Update:Orlando Sentinel Post

Is Governor Scott getting on board Sunrail?

Sarah Palin likes rap and Rick Scott can rappel

Sarah Palin Common Objections:

There are some subjects that potential candidates for office should steer clear of altogether, non-issues that are irrelevant to the economy, education, or national defense. Sarah Palin appears to seek out these hot button topics that energizes her base, alienates the middle and propel revenue of her book sales and public appearances into millions.

“I’m not anti-rap. In fact, like Bret Baier, I know the lyrics to ‘Rapper’s Delight,’ too.”- Sarah Palin

This is in response to the rapper Common being invited to a poetry session in the White House. Common laid down some gangster rap lyrics a few years back, and Palin is one of the critics that object to the President’s invitation. She tweeted and when she tweets people listen. You can watch her full tv interview here.

I wasn’t crazy about Common’s invite. I think you can do a little better but, this kind of interview isn’t going to gain you any points in a general election. Palin can walk into the primary and in this field probably poll at 1 or 2, but her opinions on matters like these only sell books, they don’t get you elected.

Palin needs to fight battles dealing with economy, not poetry

Rick Scott Rappels:

Press Corp evasion training?

Look at Governor Rick Scott being hardcore! You think Bill McCullom or Alex Sink would be doing that? That is Florida’s Governor rappelling down the air assault tower at the Fort Blanding National Guard facility. Scott did four years in the Navy and is a runner so, he’s not a complete stranger to physical activity.

Our Governor is a lot of things, at least he’s not a wimp.

Update: Rick “Tiger” Scott

This pic just showed up of our guv at the player’s championship, practicing his swing. Tiger Wood’s withdrew due to injury earlier today, I wonder if they’ll run into each other in the club house.
