George Lemieux talks Connie Mack, Washington, and Four Freedoms

On Friday, former Senator and Current Candidate for Senate, George Lemieux called in to talk about Washington, his Four Freedoms plan, and Connie Mack.

He didn’t pull any punches and made it clear that he’s the guy to take on Bill Nelson and sending him back to Washington is Florida’s best bet for getting things done.

Senate Candidates have been good to bloggers. This is Senator Lemieux’s 2nd interview with me.

Adam Hasner interviewed with Bloggers a few days back.

Connie Mack. When you’re ready, let’s have a talk.

Even Bill Nelson. Senator, voters from both parties and Independents read this blog. Give me a call.

US Senate Candidate Adam Hasner talks to Florida Bloggers

I’ve always thought the GOP primary to take on Bill Nelson next year, has been a two candidate race.

Former State Representative and Majority Leader Adam Hasner is one of those candidates.

He’s got the energy, the passion, and the votes of a lot of younger Republicans in the state. When he took the stage at CPAC Florida he got the crowd exited and he didn’t just win the straw poll, he marched into the Orange County Convention Center and took it.

This afternoon he took his campaign to the internet and engaged Florida political bloggers. Below is the conference, moderated by Sunshine State Sarah Rumpf.

Adam Hasner has been here, so has George Lemieux. Connie Mack, when you make it official give a blogger a call.

Till next time

5 Bold Predictions for Presidency Five Straw Poll and Fox News Debate

Orlando, Florida will get it’s close up tomorrow as the national spotlight shines on the Orange County Convention Center for Presidency V. All of the GOP contenders (and some pretenders) will be in town trying to win the first major battle for Republican votes in the I4 Corridor.

The FOX News debate will be the headliner in what is also a joint venture with Youtube. CPAC FL is nestled comfortably between that debate on Thursday night and the program and straw poll on Saturday night. There are side events being put on by other parties, all with the intent of getting the voters in front of these candidates. The national convention in Tampa next year is going to be intense but as far as 2011. This is where it’s going down.

That being said it’s prediction time and I’m gonna take a few different angles. Here we go..

1. Yeah, Rick Perry is probably going to win the straw poll but, Romney isn’t going to be second: That honor will go to … Ron Paul. Bachmann, Romney, and even Orlando based Jon Huntsman will be on the ballot but not at the straw poll event. Ron Paul’s base will be and he’ll get to pound the convention center floor and shake those hands. Paul is second.

2. They’ll be a Senate frontrunner in Central Florida after this weekend: This is the Pizza Guy’s home turf and you’ll see a lot of stickers but, there are still only two serious candidates and thats Adam Hasner and George Lemieux. There are some Senate events for these candidates on the under card but, with some of the shine reflecting off of the Presidential hopefuls, one of these guys will catch the ball and run with it.

3. Whether she’s there or not Sarah Palin will garner attention: The controversial, tell -all book was released this week that accused Palin of everything from violence, to cocaine abuse, to cheating on her husband with former NBA star Glenn Rice. Yeah, she’s not scheduled but, the support for her in Central Florida will be here this weekend.

4. Megyn Kelly will throw down with one of the candidates: Fox News’ Megyn Kelly has been on a roll since she’s returned from maternity leave, making headlines for destroying her guests on America Live. She’s the best thing they got going over there will be on the panel tomorrow. I’m just sayin’ if Michele Bachmann were to get a brave or if Newt goes anti-media again. Well, Jersey Shore doesn’t have to be the only confrontational program on tomorrow night.

Kelly has been the best thing on FOX news since she's been back from maternity leave

5. One of the Candidates will drop out after this weekend: These lower end candidates have got to be close to waking up right? Perry, Romney, Bachmann, and maaaaaaaybe Huntsman. The rest are trying to ice skate up hill. and one of them will use the media residue from this high profile event to bow out of the race gracefully.

It’s going to be an exiting event and I will be bringing it all to you right here on Orlandopolitics.net. Have fun!

It's going down in Orlando this weekend! Check back frequently for updates!

Charlie Crist could have beaten Bill Nelson

It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long, already. It seems like just yesterday.

15 months since Former Florida Governor Charlie Crists left The Republican Party of Florida to run for the U.S Senate as an Independent.

This of course was due to the phenomenal rise of current GOP Senator Marco Rubio, who also not so long ago, seemed like a long shot to represent the sunshine state in the Senate. He’s now fighting off rumors that he is Mitt Romney’s top pick for the bottom of his ticket for 2012.

Former Governor Crist is now “For the People” working for one of the biggest personal injury firms in Florida and giving lectures at Stetson University.

It didn’t have to be this way.

When Rubio leaned forward in the arm wrestling match at the polls, Crist could have dropped out, quit. He could have ran for re-election as Governor and easily won, or if he had his heart set on going to Washington, he could have done what a lot of other pundits were saying he should have done.

Ran against Bill Nelson, and after this debt ceiling fiasco and S&P giving our economy “the political finger” he could have beaten the long time Senator who, watched NASA get dismantled.

If Charlie Crist hadn’t left RPOF, George Lemieux wouldn’t be in the contest, and he easily would have been the fundraising frontrunner. Conservatives would have appreciated ol’ Charlie stepping aside and letting Rubio through.

In the general, Crist could have used Bill Nelson’s recent record, and the current crisis in Washington against him. In what could be another “throw the bums out” year in 2012, where Republicans run against President Obama, instead of their opponents, Crist could beat Bill Nelson. That would have been an exiting race, set against the backdrop of a Presidential battle for Florida, like we’ve never seen.

Crist could still have a future, he can still be Governor again. Rick Scott’s approval numbers are still awful and he could stomp former CFO Alex Sink and AG candidate Dan Gelber in a Democratic primary. In the general election, barring a personality transplant by Governor Scott, the voters would send him back to the Governor’s mansion but, it won’t be what he wanted. He wanted to go to D.C and if he could have just waited a couple of years, he would have gotten his wish.

If Crist hadn't burned his bridges he could have been a Senator in 2012

The Market is Down, Mcallister is Up, and Huntsman's Campaign Conflict

TGIF, Let’s go…

I got five (hundred) on it: The market plummeted 500 points to 2008 lows yesterday, setting off an economic panic that is being felt around the world. Asia, Europe, and Wall St. are all prepared to bury their money if this keeps up. Gold! Gold is down and the guy spinning the sign on Colonial Dr. said that would never happen.

Everyone is looking at the President…

President Obama’s approval rating fell to a 2008, G.W Bush-like, 44% in the latest Quinnipiac Poll. The voters are obviously not pleased with the way that the debt ceiling debates were handled and Mitt Romney has got to stoked. He stayed quiet, walked through the mudslinging and came out clean on the other side, still leading the polls amongst GOP Presidential hopefuls.

Mike McCalister leads poll: The same poll that has Obama’s approval sinking has former Army Colonel Mike McCalister leading the Republican field, in the primary to take on Bill Nelson. He’s out front with 15%, Former Senator George Lemieux has 12%, the guy working at the pizza parlor in Maitland has %8, and former State Rep. Adam Hasner has %6.

You might has seen McCalister’s name on this blog before, he finished third in last year’s GOP Gubernatorial primary, that saw him take an unexpected 10% in that slug match between Bill McCullom and, then unknown, Florida Governor Rick Scott. Is he for real? We’ll see..

McCallister is up in the polls. Is he the real deal?

Jon Huntsman Campaign Infighting?: Yesterday, Politico and the Orlando Sentinel pushed a nasty story on the Orlando Based, Jon Huntsman campaign that touched some major conflicts between key staff. Forget TNT, if this article is on point, then this is where the drama is at.

The story of campaign strategist John Weaver and family friend Dave Fischer has HBO movie written all over it, and they could shoot it on Orange Ave.

The timing is unfortunate, Huntsman has recently been mentioned by some TV pundits as a dark horse to push into the Romney/Bachmann conversation. The former Utah Governor doesn’t need this right now.

It's been the drama behind the scenes which has made the headlines this week for Jon Huntsman

Mike Haridopolos out of Senate Race

Here is Mike Haridopolos’s announcement that he is dropping out of the race, for the United States Senate.

Haridopolos had a rough go at it recently. The end of session meltdown, that radio show debacle, and the $152,000 dollar book deal with a local community college. Columnist have wrote that he doesn’t have the “bass” in his voice to be a major player on the hill. He was also be labeled as a special interest darling by his opponents. He did bring in major endorsements from Mike Huckabee, and Dean Cannon. Where will they’re support go?

So, we’ve got former Senator George Lemieux and former State Rep. Adam Hasner. You can throw former Ruth Chris CEO, Craig Miller, who’s got deep pockets into the conversation.

Still, Haridopolos who, lost a straw poll on his home turf a couple of days ago is making the right call. He’s still young, he’s demonstrated he can raise money, and he is the Senate President. If he shifts his position on some of the issues, exercises more poise and aggression against his critics, he can still have a long career in politics. Perhaps, in the House of Representatives?

He mentions in this video “When you do the right thing the future takes care of itself”, he did the right thing today, let’s see if he’s right.

Haridopolos still has a future in Florida politics

Lemieux Money Winner for the Quarter, Craig Miller enters Senate Race

George Lemieux banks 950K:
Politicians running for office, are often compared to stock on Wall St. investors put their money in places they feel the most confident.

This quarter, they felt confident in former Senator George Lemieux.

Lemieux announced that he brought in over 950,000 dollars this quarter, this number exceeds the total of State Senate President, the faux pas prone Mike Haridopolos. He managed to bring in 900k after a huge first quarter. The other major candidate, Adam Hasner brought in 560k, who is exceeding totals brought in by Marco Rubio at this point during his campaign.

Craig Miller is running for Senate:

Who would attack a widow and mother of three on the anniversary of her husband’s death?

Who would do a drive by at an opponent’s rally and litter a church with his flyers, knowing full well that he would not gain one vote?

That would be this guy….

Former Ruth Chris Boss, Craig Miller

I’ve got product knowledge of Craig Miller and his behavior during the 2010 D24 Congressional race was a sad display of character from someone seeking public service.

Anyhow, he’s in, he’s got money, and he’ll get invites to debates and major events.

This along with Alan Grayson and Val Demings announcing today, their intentions to run for the House of Representatives, it’s safe to say.

It’s almost game time.

George LeMieux web-ad "On the Brink"

Former Senator and Current candidate George Lemieux released this ad today, check it out.

“Washington is bizarre and broken.”

Yeah man, those people are crazy…

It’s a well produced ad that hits all of the conservative talking points and voters will actually see footage of Lemieux calling out the President. The montage is pretty common, although the neon green Bill Nelson is rather disturbing. The music gets you fired up and primed to go join the political fight right now.

One thing the ad doesn’t do is attack Lemieux’s primary opponents. It’s a little early but, former state rep Adam Hasner launched this ad last week, trying to connect Lemieux to Republican turned independent and former Governor Charlie Crist.

The third candidate in the Senate GOP primary is embattled state Senate prez Mike Haridopolos, he’s had a rough go at it recently but, did get House Speaker Dean Cannon’s endorsement, raised a lot of money and released this “getting to know you” ad, a couple of weeks back.
