City Council Sells Land Next to Amway Center to Magic, for Future Entertainment Complex

Lost in all of the Crist vs. Scott Hype was a the Orlando City Council selling the Police Station and Parking Garage across the street from the Amway Center, for a future Orland Magic Entertainment Complex.

The Orlando Sentinel reported (story HERE) that the Council voted 7-0 in favor of the deal that will feature a development worth 200 million dollars, and create 1,000 jobs in the area, according to Orlando Magic Officials.

The deal was hardly a secret and has been in talks for sometime. Downtown continues to grow a a rapid pace. Last month during his State of Downtown Address, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer mentioned the project, and the media has been covering the project for some time with a key angle on the story being where would the Orlando Police Department be relocated to. That’s also mentioned in the story.

City and County Leaders could be experiencing “Venue Fatigue” this vote comes less that two weeks after the County Commission approved a 94.5 Million Dollar Venues Package that included funding for Citrus Bowl Renovations and Performing Arts Center Construction, and the highest profile part of the deal, a new Soccer Stadium to draw an MLS franchise to the City Beautiful.

All of this along with Commuter “Sun” Rail which will run from Deland to Poinciana with the marquis stop being in the heart of downtown.
