The battle over who will be the next commissioner of District 5 will not be decided this evening.
Juan Lynum and Regina Hill will advance to a May Run-off after the two were knotted together in the final vote count 743 to 706. The third candidate in the race Cynthia Harris has been eliminated.
Analysis: We now get another chapter in what has been a remarkable contest concerning an area that is conflicted over the direction it wants to go. On one side you’ve got Juan Lynum, who is looking to carry on the legacy of him mother Daisy, after she announced she would not seek reelection after 16 years. And Hill who’s on the exact opposite side of almost all of Lynum’s positions. The latter has to be excited over these results. Lynum’s name ID and resources dwarfed hers.
Also, it’s not over for Harris, who was a good candidate. Will she endorse? It could mean the difference in the run-off.
No doubt both candidates are exhausted but they can’t rest.
To be continued.
