State Senator Geraldine Thompson (D-Orlando) sent out a release today, announcing that she was pleased with her leadership assignment as Vice Chairperson of the Commerce and Tourism Senate Committee.
“I am excited about this new assignment, especially given that Orlando is the No. 1 tourist destination in the world,” Sen. Thompson said. “Of course, Florida’s brand still centers on tourism and commerce; I look forward to helping to lead this important committee as we work on both sides of the Legislature to enact, repeal and support legislation that has this state and its constituents in mind.”
Thompson’s other assignments included spots on the following committees: Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development, Community Affairs, Ethics and Elections, Transportation, Joint Administrative Procedures.
Senate President Andy Gardiner has been getting positive reviews from both sides, regarding his committee assignments. On Social Media, Thompson’s fellow Orlando area Senator Darren Soto said Gardiner “was very fair appointing 5 Dems to Committee Chairs”. Soto (an Attorney) was assigned as Vice Chair of Rules Committee and on Judiciary.
“We have many Senators who have a great deal of institutional knowledge that has been a great benefit to the Senate. For this reason, some Senators are assigned to familiar policy or budget areas. Other Senators are being called upon to utilize their talents in new areas for the best interest of the Senate.“ Gardiner said regarding committee assignments after being sworn in as Senate President.
