This Afternoon, Governor Rick Scott‘s office released a “Frequently Asked Questions” memo regarding the events leading up to and the ultimate dismissal of former Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey.
There has been conflict of facts between Bailey and the Governor’s office regarding the conditions of his departure. The Governor says he resigned voluntarily. Bailey said he was forced out and that Scott’s explanation was “a lie”.
The memorandum answers questions that have been following Scott around the state on his “Let’s Keep Working” budget tour. Some of the questions include “Is it true that Gerald Bailey was forced to resign?” and “Is it true that FDLE was forced to transport staffers from your reelection campaign in state vehicles?”
The memo was released after two members of the Governor’s Cabinet, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, and Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam told reporters today that the matter required attention, Scott’s spokesperson called the allegations “ridiculous”. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also voiced her concerns and the cabinet will discuss Bailey on February 5th.
“I think it’s important to make sure that the processes that are in place work” Putnam said “and there should be some follow-up to those allegations. They were incidents of illegal activity versus sloppy campaign official type interactions that occurred.”
