Sullivan Files Legislation to Assist Human Trafficking Victims

This week, Representative Jennifer Sullivan (R-Mount Dora) filed legislation that will generate revenue to help victims of Human Trafficking.

House Bill 457 would direct the DHSMV to begin production on a “Safe and Free” license plate, the money collected from the plate would be sent to non-profit organizations authorizing them to use the funds to provide materials like food and clothing, counseling services, and for victim housing.

“Each and every one of us has a roll to play in ending human trafficking. It is a privilege to sponsor this license plate which will serve as a means of both educating the public on this horrific epidemic and funding much needed services for trafficked victims. I am grateful to have the support of my Senate sponsor Anitere Flores as we partner together with Safe and Free Florida to pass this legislation,” Sullivan said in a statement

The legislation has received positive feed back from the Senate. Anitere Flores (R-Miami) had these remarks, “I want to congratulate Representative Sullivan for presenting this legislation. Human trafficking is a serious issue and I am honored to support and help bring more awareness to this issue,”

The war on Human Trafficking has been a major priority of Attorney General Pam Bondi, who last year in Orlando (story HERE) pledged to end this “Modern Day slavery”

Florida is one of the states with the highest call volume to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center. Specifically, Orlando is #1 and Tampa is #3 as destinations for pedophile trafficking with the average age of trafficked girls being 12 and boys being 9.
