Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer was the featured guest at a “Happy Hour for Hillary” fundraiser, held downtown for the former Secretary of State and Democratic frontrunner for President. The event was hosted by the Greater Orlando Team Hillary group, an organization of grassroots supporters who have held rallies in Orange and Osceola counties in previous months.
Dyer, who’s noted, and in some circles criticized for not showing his party roots enough during election season, pulled no punches this evening in demonstrating support for Clinton, and several times sent jabs across the aisle at key Republicans in the state.
“How about last week?!” Dyer said leading the crowd to cheer in belief that he was referring to the Supreme Court’s rulings on the Affordable Care Act and Same-sex marriage “I was talking about Rick Scott’s vetoes!” he followed, which drew an audible laugh from the crowd “But, things got much better after Tuesday. I can definitely tell you that.”
The Mayor then moved on to the main purpose of the meeting “There is no question that she is going to be our nominee” Dyer said referring to Clinton “There is not path for anyone winning the Presidency without winning Florida. How do you win Florida? You gotta win the I-4 Corridor. You win the I-4 corridor, you win Florida. You win Florida and you’re a Democrat, you are the next President of the United States”
Dyer did not ignore the other two big names running for President from here in the Sunshine state and took a poll with the audience in attendance. “Who’s for Jeb!? W!ho is for Hillary!? Who is for Marco? Who is for Hillary?!” with the crowd cheering for Clinton both times. “Alright let’s go to work!” he said in conclusion.
Other lawmakers in attendance included State Senator Darren Soto (D-Orlando), State Representative John Cortes (D-Kissimmee), Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan, and Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph.
