Ross to run for District 4 Commissioner instead of Orlando Mayor

Orlando Marketing Professional and Activist Randy Ross has filed to run for the Orlando City Council in District 4, this is a change from his previously announced plans to run for Mayor (story HERE).

“I will not be running for Mayor. I carefully reviewed the options and decided to formally file in this race.” Ross said on his Facebook page.

He’ll be challenging City Commissioner Patty Sheehan, who Ross calls a “career politician”, that was in part responsible for the property tax increase last year.

“The incumbent’s nearly 16 years in office and yes vote on a nearly 18% property tax increase are simply unacceptable. Being a great place to live, work and play requires partnership and vision through cooperative engagement between citizens and the City.”

The change of plans could be seen coming. Weeks after declaring his candidacy for Mayor, Ross still hadn’t filed. It was unlikely that he (or anyone else at this point) was going to mount a serious challenge against Mayor Buddy Dyer, who is approaching a quarter million in fundraising donations (story HERE), and support from every major business interests in the city. Ross also has an arrest for a false insurance claim from earlier this year.

“I always said if I ran for office again I’d put my skeletons out front and center and I have. Now it’s time to focus on the future of Orlando in a realistic and thoughtful way. I may not have all the answers, but I know one thing that I can do that currently isn’t happening…I’ll listen.”
