State Representative and Florida Attorney General Candidate, Jay Fant, was in Orlando on Tuesday afternoon to meet with supporters on his tour of the state after declaring his candidacy earlier in the day.
During his first event in Central Florida, Fant pledged to keep “big government” out of the Attorney General’s office, while protecting small businesses and seniors from consumer scams.
“Big government doesn’t really care about mainstream. They don’t care about the little guy.” said Fant “Small businesses are more susceptible to the bad edges of the scams. That’s what law enforcement is designed for, and the Attorney General marries those together in a way I’ll find quite fulfilling, looking out for the little guys.”
The Jacksonville Republican is the first candidate to file to succeed incumbent Pam Bondi. Fant said he would continue many of her same initiatives and continue to attack identified threats to the state like human trafficking and the opioid epidemic.
Fellow elected officials and notable attendees at the rally included State Representatives Mike Miller, Rene “Coach P” Plasencia, David Santiago, and Orange County Young Republicans President Nick Primrose, among others.
Fant’s tour began this morning in Tallahassee and when completed will have stopped in Tampa, parts of the panhandle and finally his hometown of Jacksonville.
In a discussion with reporters following his remarks, he underlined his commitment to stopping criminals that are taking advantage of seniors.
“These guys are scam artists, I call them the bad guys and I’m coming to find them.” he said in conclusion.
