The Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida and BusinessForce have teamed up to host a social and candidate debate next month for the candidates who have qualified for the special election for Florida House District 44, vacated by former State Rep. Eric Eisnaugle. Eisnaugle was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the Fifth District Court of Appeal in May.
Four Republican candidates qualified for the ballot: Usha Jain, John Newstreet, Robert “Bobby O” Olszewski, and Bruno Portigliatti. All have confirmed they will participate in the debate, which will be held at the Dubsdread Ballroom on July 12. RSVPs are required to attend.
According to the Orange County Supervisor of Elections website, the primary for the District 44 special election will be on August 15, and the general election will be on October 10.
In addition to the four Republican candidates, one Democrat, Paul Chandler, also qualified for the ballot. Because there is only one Democratic candidate, no primary will be necessary and Chandler will face the victor of the Republican special election primary in October.
