Ripley's Believe It or Not! buys original Star Wars lightsaber for $450,000

Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, the International Drive based attraction purchased one of the most famous pieces of film memorabilia in history this week, picking up an original Star Wars lightsaber at a Hollywood auction for $450,000.

The announcement says the lightsaber was not constructed by Obi Wan Kenobi in the deserts of Tatooine but from a Grafex Flashgun camera from the 1930s. It comes from the archives of Gary Kurtz, who was a producer on both Episode IV a New Hope and Episode IV Return of the Jedi.

Other items purchased at the auction include Donald Trump’s 50th birthday invitation sent to Loni Anderson, a Walking Dead jacket and “zombie” facial appliance, a set of Bob Hope novelty golf clubs, and an Emmy won by Mary K. Well for Best writing on all my children.

Ripley’s Believe it or Not! is one of Orlando’s most visually recognizable attractions in Orlando. The upside-down building entertains guests from all over the world.
