Lt. Gov. Lopez-Cantera endorses Sturgill for Congress

Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera has endorsed Scott Sturgill in the 2018 race for Florida’s 7th Congressional District, according to a press release from Sturgill’s campaign. The district includes Seminole County and northern Orange County, as well as the University of Central Florida campus, and is currently represented by Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D), who defeated long-time incumbent John Mica (R) in 2016.

“Scott Sturgill has a proven record of success in the private sector and this experience will serve him well when he represents the residents of Central Florida in Congress,” said Lopez-Cantera. “He will be an effective leader for lower taxes and a strong economy in the U.S. House of Representatives. I am proud to support him.”

“Lt. Governor Lopez-Cantera is one of our great conservative leaders,” said Sturgill. “I am happy to have his support as I seek to return CD7 to Republican control.”

Sturgill, the CEO of Durable Safety Products in Sanford and former Board Chair of the Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce, launched his campaign last month. He faces a tough primary. State Rep. Mike Miller previously announced he would run for the Congressional seat last month, and State Sen. David Simmons has said that he is “98% sure” he will enter the race.
