An Orlando woman, Rosa Alcides Rivera, 28, stabbed her 11-year-old daughter to death to keep her from having sex with men.
On March 10, Rivera drove to Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital with her deceased daughter. Hospital personnel came to the car to discover her dead in the front seat of the vehicle. Rivera was then detained by security guards at Orlando Health and she was discovered to also have a knife.
The knife had a red substance on it that officers believed to be consistent with blood. The knife was taken into possession and given over to the Orlando Police Department. It was observed by officials that Rivera had a large yet superficial cut on her left arm near her wrist.
Rivera told hospital staff that she had killed her daughter and was observed saying, “My baby is gone.” The admission was recorded on police body cameras.
The victim was identified as Aleyda Rivera, and had fifteen stab wounds in and around her back. She was also observed to have a defensive wound on her right arm, according to the arrest affidavit.
Rivera believed her daughter to be having a sexual relationship with men, including her mother’s boyfriend, which both are reported to have denied.
