Orlando, FL—Dr. Leo Valentin, Republican candidate for Florida’s 7th congressional district, released the following statement regarding the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Puerto Rico this week.
“My heart is with the people of Puerto Rico and we continue to lift them up in prayer during this time. Puerto Rico has been through significant struggles over the past several years, but I know the people of Puerto Rico will persevere through this with resilience, compassion, and strength,” said Dr. Valentin. “Few understand the similar challenges our region faces better than I do. From Florida to Puerto Rico, we are under similar environmental conditions and solidarity couldn’t be more important. We must be able to tackle these hardships head on and provide the resources that people need and deserve.”
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake and several following tremors struck Puerto Rico Tuesday this week, causing multiple injuries and at least one casualty only a day after a 5.8 magnitude quake hit the island. Power outages and damage is being continually reported from various areas across the island.
Dr. Leo Valentin was born and raised in Puerto Rico. After completing his medical training in the states, Dr. Valentin was involved in managing a hospital during the aftermath of Hurricane Maria that struck the island in 2017.
