Mayor Demings’ goals for the week are:

·         Stop the spread of the virus through driving adherence to the CDC guidelines

·         Continue working with the state to increase testing

·         Continue crisis assistance for families, individuals and small businesses

·         Work toward safely improving commerce

COVID NUMBERS

Over the weekend, Florida’s total COVID-19 cases topped 200,000. In the past 14 days, there have been 9,186 positive cases in the County. Over the past five days, Orange County’s COVID-19 cases have increased by 3,533. The County’s positivity rate is now 9.2%, which is the same as the state of Florida’s rate. Our recovery rate is about 60% – which has increased.

61 Orange County residents have died from COVOID-19. As of July 1, the state is now also counting antigen tests with its COVID positive testing numbers. Antigen testing is a new category of diagnostic testing. A positive antigen case is considered a positive case and is counted.

ECONOMIC RECOVERY

With the surge in cases, the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force’s Business Compliance and Consumer Confidence Working Group will meet next week. The date and time are still to be determined.

If the COVID-19 cases still appear to be increasing at a high rate, the working group will look at recommending to the Task Force on whether penalties and fines should be imposed on businesses that violate the face-covering mandate.

TESTING

The State’s regional temporary drive-through testing site at the Orange County Convention Center tests more people than anywhere else in the state.

Orange County Health Services will offer free testing at Barnett Park next week. More information will be available later this week at www.ocfl.net/covid19

ORANGE CARES

The next application opening for the Orange CARES for Residents Program will be the week of July 13, 2020. Visit www.ocfl.net/OrangeCARES for more information. Orange CARES for Small Business Program’s application is still open.
