ORLANDO, FL – Florida State Representative Anna V. Eskamani (D-47) has endorsed Samuel Vilchez Santiago in his bid to represent District 48 in the Florida House of Representatives.
Rep. Eskamani currently represents the neighboring House District 47, and in 2018 became the first Iranian American elected to the Florida House. She stated, “from the moment I first met Samuel, I knew he was someone to watch. I am thrilled to endorse his people-driven campaign, and to help elect a fresh face to the Florida Legislature. Samuel’s community driven approach problem solving coupled with his knowledge of state policy is unmatched, and I cannot wait to welcome him to the Florida House!”
Vilchez Santiago responded, “Representative Eskamani’s service to her constituents is unparalleled, especially in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and Florida’s broken unemployment system. She has shown effective and steadfast leadership throughout her tenure, and I’m beyond thrilled to have earned her endorsement in this historic race.” He added, “Representative Eskamani has spearheaded legislation to reduce gun violence, promote renewable energy and criminal justice reform, and to protect a woman’s right to choose. On a daily basis, she shows us that a better Florida is possible, and I can’t wait to join her in Tallahassee.”
This endorsement adds to that of State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith (D-49), who also represents parts of Central Florida. Vilchez Santiago has also been endorsed by the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association (OCCTA), the Florida Professional Firefighters union (FPF), the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades (IUPAT) DC 78, the Orlando Regional Realtors Association (ORRA), and the Florida Realtors PAC. This, in addition to endorsements from School Board Member Johanna López and Soil and Water Supervisor and President of the Democratic Black Caucus, Dawn Curtis.
