Kaplan Strategies has released a new poll of the Florida Gubernatorial Democratic primary indicating a toss-up between Charlie Crist and Nikki Fried. Both candidates are receiving support from 39% of those surveyed with 22% undecided. “The primary is up for grabs at the moment,” said Doug Kaplan of Kaplan Strategies. “Despite Crist being a former Governor and having been on a statewide ballot so many times in the past, Fried is still within striking distance of winning the nomination. He has name ID, but she has momentum.”
Fried does notably better among younger voters 18-29 who intend to vote for her by a 48%-20% margin, while Crist gets much of his support from voters of 65 years old who back him 52%-27%.
Likely Democratic primary voters according to the poll have a 60%-10% favorable rating of Fried with 30% uncertain. Crist has a similar 66%-21% favorable spread, though only 13% don’t have an opinion. One thing, however, that unites Democrats is their disapproval of Republican Incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis who holds a 8%-86% favorable rating.
Looking forward to November, regardless of who Democrats plan to support in the primary, both candidates will see similar support against DeSantis. Only 6% of Democratic primary voters indicated that they would vote for DeSantis over Fried and 5% would vote for DeSantis over Crist.
Kaplan Strategies, a nonpartisan research firm, conducted this random survey. The survey was collected from an online panel of cell phone users using web and text responses and automated voice responses. The results are weighted by demographic voting characteristics. https://www.scribd.com/document/581710524/Florida-Democratic-Primary-July-6-2022-v5
