On Wednesday night, Congressman and Candidate for U.S Senate Alan Grayson held a joint telephone town hall with his Wife, who is running for his seat in Florida’s 9th Congressional District, Dr. Dena Grayson.
The topic of the call, (which was preceded by a disclaimer from the Congressman that it was being presented by each of the two candidate’s respective political action committees) was “Important information about health care in Central Florida”. The discussion began with a briefing from Dr. Grayson revolving around the current facts of the Zika epidemic, how it’s spread, and how it could be prevented. Grayson concluded her briefing with a call to action for constituents to remain vigilant of mosquitoes, especially after Tropical Storm Colin, which has provided an ideal environment for them to flourish.
Afterwards a campaign staffer asked participants of the call to press “1” if they wanted to support the Alan Grayson Campaign for Senate, or “2” if they wanted to support the Dena Grayson campaign for Congress.
The Graysons then fielded several friendly calls from constituents regarding their work to prevent the spread of Zika and health care resources in the 9th district, before callers were asked once more to signal if they wanted to support one of the two candidates.
Both races have garnered national attention since the two privately married over Memorial Day weekend, almost a year after the former Dena Minning filed to run for her then boyfriend’s seat.
Alan Grayson is currently running for the open Senate seat that became available after incumbent Marco Rubio’s run for the White House. He’s currently running in a bruising Democratic primary against his Congressional Colleague Patrick Murphy.
Dena Grayson is running to succeed her Husband in the Orange/Osceola Disrict in another high profile primary against Grayson’s former District Director Susannah Randolph, State Senator Darren Soto, and Businesswoman Valleri Crabtree.
“I’m looking for a promotion this year.” said Grayson reciting his accomplishments in the House “And I can’t wait to be a constituent in Congresswoman Dr. Dena Grayson’s 9th District.”
