The Florida House released a web video on Thursday that highlights the controversial investments made by Enterprise Florida and VISIT Florida, the two economic development programs they hope to eliminate during the legislative session.
The three and a half minute video begins here in Orlando with news footage announcing the closing of the Sanford Burnham clinic on Innovation Way which promised lofty economic goals at it’s beginning only to announce it’s closure late last year. The video then moves on to the failed Digital Domain company which closed after taking state dollars then pivots to the VISIT Florida contract signed by music star Pitbull, which ultimately left to the agency lead stepping down after Pitbull himself revealed he was paid $1 million dollars to promote the state.
“No more bailouts. No more handouts.” flashes across the screen just before the ad closes.
The video is the latest swing in an economic fist fight between State House Speaker Richard Corcoran and fiscally conservative Republicans in the house who oppose the programs and Florida Governor Rick Scott who has been a champion for them.
