Florida Governor Rick Scott was in St Cloud on Thursday afternoon for a discussion with small business leaders, during the discussion the governor called out State Representative Mike La Rosa, who represents the region in the Florida House for voting to eliminate VISIT Florida and Enterprise Florida, two economic programs which have come under fire in recent months by House Republicans.
“You have a sheet that shows that your local State Rep, Mike La Rosa voted to say we don’t need to market our state anymore. He voted we don’t need to do anymore economic development” said Scott “Now we know exactly where Mike La Rosa is.”
This was the first offensive move by the Governor in the Orlando area against a member of his own party since the war started last month over the future of his two economic programs, which he says are responsible for the state’s job gains in recent months. House Republicans and other fiscally conservative groups has said the two programs offer no clear return of investment for the millions in taxpayer dollars they spend every year and released a video earlier in the day making their case (story HERE).
La Rosa wasn’t an enthusiastic “Yes” vote during last week’s hearing, instead calling it the “beginning of a conversation” that needed to be had among lawmakers.
The House District 42 lawmaker also released this statement below after the Governor’s visit.
“I appreciate the governor’s point of view. Sometimes I vote with the Governor and sometimes I do not. This was one of those times.” begins La Rosa “The Governor and I have offices within close proximity of each other. When he arrives back from his tour, I welcome the opportunity to sit down and discuss together how we can continue to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse within the government.”
