AFP Florida drops mailer pushing David Simmons towards House budget proposal

Americans for Prosperity Florida has dropped a new mailer in the boxes of constituents in State Senator David Simmons’ district calling on the Altamonte Springs Republican to favor the leaner State House Budget over his own chamber’s proposal.

The house budget passed last week was $81.2 billion dollars compared to the $85.1 billion dollar proposal passed by the senate. Some major differences include using rising property values to collect more funding for schools, more special projects for members, and dollars for health care which could see more relief after Governor Rick Scott announced the state would receive $1.5 billion dollars for low income pool patients.

The mailer tells constituents to “cut wasteful spending” by asking Simmons to vote for the House budget that would “cut waste”, provide students “better opportunity for education” and “end corporate welfare”.

Simmons hasn’t publicly voiced any opinions on the budget since it was passed last week but earlier in the session pushed for using extra property tax revenue for raising per student spending in schools. Both the House and Senate are preparing for budget negotiations during the second half stretch of the legislative session.
