Osceola County Chamber President, John Newstreet, has announced that his campaign for the State House District 44 special election has qualified for the race by petition. The House District seat became open after Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed former Representative Eric Eisnaugle to the bench in the Fifth District Court of Appeals.
“The support we are receiving from the voters in District 44 has been overwhelming and unexpected this early in the campaign,” said Newstreet. “They understand we need a conservative in Tallahassee, someone who has a lifetime of service to veterans and the community with a track record of creating jobs.”
House District 44 consists of parts of West Orange County including Winter Garden and Windermere. Other Republicans running included former Winter Garden Commissioner Bobby Olsewski, who’s also qualified by petition, and Businessman Bruno Portigliatti. Democrats seeking the seat include Orange County Dems Vice Chair Nuren Haider and Paul Chandler.
