Conservatives from all over Lake County were in Tavares on Saturday morning, for a rally that celebrated both Flag Day and the Presidency of Donald Trump. The keynote speaker was Congressman Daniel Webster, who took his time at the podium to honor the members of the capitol police in Washington, who took down a shooter during a practice for a Congressional baseball game earlier this week.
The longtime state lawmaker and Congressman from the 11th District also sent well wishes to his colleague, Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was critically wounded in the attack.
“Whether they’re in our military or our first responders, people have risen to risk their lives to save our country. To save our people” said Webster after an emotional pause during his remarks “Those who fear freedom have chosen terror as their weapon but like always America’s sons and daughters have risen to the occasion.”
Special agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey both engaged the shooter and were injured. Both are currently recovering and Bailey was able to throw out the first pitch at the game played the next night.
“She had already been wounded and she took him out. God be the glory.” added Webster describing Griner’s actions after she was shot in the ankle.
The event featured other speakers, each who saluted all that protect the flag. Attendees also received briefings from Republican Party officials on how they could stay involved in helping other conservatives in the upcoming elections, who could help the President advance his work in the White House.
