TAMPA, FL (October 12, 2018) — Ruth’s List Florida, the only organization in the state to provide free structural support to pro-choice Democratic women candidates, has added two members with wide-ranging legal backgrounds to its Executive Committee.
Longtime Orlando resident Brian Anderson, who spent many years as a patent lawyer in Washington, DC, has been an active supporter of progressive candidates; and Danielle Cohen Higgins, a native of Miami, who has extensive experience in complex commercial civil litigation, provides legal services to small businesses and the seriously injured.
“Brian Anderson and Danielle Cohen Higgins are exemplary additions to our Executive Committee,” Ruth’s List Florida CEO/President Pamela Goodman said. “Our organization is growing at an unprecedented rate, and it’s not just women who are supporting our mission,” she said. “Men who are feminists also support our mission. They talk the talk and walk the walk, and they deserve a seat at the leadership table of an organization they support.”
Ruth’s List Florida is the only organization in Florida that is dedicated to recruiting and assisting pro-choice Democratic women to run for public office in Tallahassee, in county commission and city council races, and for other key positions around the state. Since it began 10 years ago, it has raised $5 million for candidates, trained 1800 women, and seen 90 women to victory in their races.
Anderson is a graduate of UCF who received his law degree from NOVA Southeastern University. He worked for the US Patent & Trademark office as a trademark examining attorney, then spent two decades in private practice in Washington, DC, dealing with intellectual property, before returning to Florida. He has been married to Daphne Hammond for 35 years, and they both work to support progressive candidates.
Cohen Higgins started Cohen Law ten years ago with the mission and commitment of providing excellent yet cost-efficient legal services to small businesses and the seriously injured. She is also committed to giving back to the South Florida Community by serving on the Board of Directors for the South Florida American Heart Association, serving as a Young Ambassador to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and serving on the Executive Committee of Take Stock in Children.
